Following a last year’s successful online-only auction for a collection of Elizabeth Taylor jewels which totaled $9.5 million, global auction house, Christie’s is launching a series of online sales for global collectors that will run in parallel with its traditional sales. The beginning of this online sales will mark Christie’s first online-exclusive wine sale in early August, with more than 300 lots to be offered, for a total of more than $750,000!
Dubbed Signature Cellars, this online auction will include a wide range of fine and rare wines from top Bordeaux and Burgundy to rare Bandol wines in France and the Napa Valley. The true wine connoisseurs will find literally everything from ‘82 Lafite and Latour at the high-end to hard-to-source California cult wines from Harlan Estate and Screaming Eagl, as well as pre and post-war vintages, magnums of fine Champagne and imperials of Classified Crus, top Châteauneuf-du-Pape in all formats, beautifully-aged rare Vintage Port, and a highly desirable swath of beloved Bandol wines from the legendary Domaine Tempier.
“As a collecting category, wine lends itself very well to a global, online-only auction platform,” said Scott Torrence, vice president and senior wine specialist. “As a way of doing business, online-only sales are a very natural progression that provides our clients with even more opportunities to build and broaden their collections of fine and rare wines.”
Bidding for Christie’s Signature Cellars opens August 6 and closes August 20. Estimates for individual lots range from $200 to $35,000.
