You’ll need an staggering $100 million if you want to buy the most expensive apartment currently on the market in New York and a price that would set a record for the city. It’s an 8,000-square-foot, octagon-shaped penthouse, that sits atop the City Spire building, overlooking Central Park.
This luxury apartment spreads over the 73rd, 74th and 75th floors of the luxury condominium high rise. Due to its size and shape, it boasts with 135 windows and a wrap-around terrace on all three floors that offers 360-degree views of the city. It’s believed to be the highest outdoor space in any city residence.
Interior designer Juan Pablo Molyneaux spent a reported two and a half years outfitting the space in a “classical style.” The luxury home features a six bedrooms and nine bathrooms, as well as media room, 20-person dining room, a formal gallery, and a conference room.
The master suite encompasses the entire 75th floor and has a bathroom with hunter green marble, mahogany finishes and bronze fixtures. Additionaly, there’s a guest apartment on the 72nd floor of the building with a 400-square-foot bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchenette and a wine cellar that holds up to 1,000 bottles. Beside main elevator, it also features the second private internal elevator which moves solely between the apartment’s three levels.
The City Spire building sits on 56th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. The building itself features a fitness center with a 50-foot pool, a 24-hour doorman and a garage, and all that just blocks from Central Park, Fifth Avenue’s famed shopping, and some of the best restaurants the city has to offer.
The owner of the CitySpire penthouse, New York real estate developer Steven Klar, originally bought the apartment in 1993 for about $4.5 million and spent almost the same amount renovating the space. He told that he is selling for family reasons — that his five-year old son “could potentially get out on the terraces.”
