La Palina, synonym for exquisite and refined cigars, started with business in 1896 in Chicago by Samuel Paley, and undergone through many incarnation over the years, but in 2010 the Paley family was delighted to celebrate La Palina’s long-awaited return. Led by the great Bill Paley, the company currently have two core lines in production, and this year we are seeing the release of another limited cigar – the La Palina Collection Goldie Laguito No. 2.
La Palina Collection Goldie has been released in honor of Bill Paley’s grandmother (the wife of Sam Paley), whose image appears on the banding and packaging of La Palina cigars. Also to celebrate the history, contributions and accomplishments of women in the cigar industry, the Laguito name evokes on El Laguito Cigar Factory in Havana Cuba, where the La Palina Goldie’s cigar roller, Maria Sierra got her start. Sierra is one of the first women trained to roll cigars in Cuba. She now works at the legendary El Titan de Bronze factory in Miami, Florida.
From the press release we learn: “Her historic 32 year career at Villa EI Laguito began July 22, 1967- Maria is a 95 rated, category 9 roller trained by Fidel Castro’s personal roller Eduardo Rivera Irizarri, as well as Avelino Lara, the creator of the legendary Cohiba blend.”
The Goldie features Medio Tiempe leaf, which is the top leaves of the tobacco plant and is only found on about 10% of tobacco plants. Each cigar is rolled in the traditional Laguito No. 2 Vitola (6′ x 38 ) with a fan cap, a tradition of Villa El Laguito, and the entire Goldie production was rolled at the El Titan De Bronze factory in Miami by acclaimed master roller Maria Sierra.
La Palina Collection Goldie Laguito No. 2 is a limited edition with only 1,000 boxes available. Each box is numbered and costs $150, with a single cigar costing $15.
