Dartz, the Latvia-based company, best known by its Prombron and ubsequent variants of arguably one of the most unique armored cars in the world, has returned with an announcement for its new model – named Nagel Dakkar after Russian racing driver Andrew Nagel, the second place finisher at the 1912 Monte Carlo Rally.
Dartz describes the Landcruiser 200-sized model as a new class of car it terms B.N.U.D.S. – an acronym that stands for Bespoke, Noble, Urban, Desert, and Safety, five things that the Dartz Nagel Dakar is classified as.
The Nagel Dakkar’s styling has been hinted at two different renderings, a pencil sketch by its own Alex Isaev and a more professional looking CGI made by German designer Pochwatta, with Dartz keen to point out the customisable nature of the production model’s exterior.
“We are bespoke car builders – maybe it will have different bodies. Our customers must have choice,” the company said in a release.
Nagel Dakar will be probably built on the same principles as the Prombon. The body and the interior of the SUV will be customizable with Carbon Kevlar and a titanium tube frame chassis, while the underpinnings will remain the same and include a 650hp Mercedes-Benz AMG 5.5-liter bi-turbocharged V8 engine. It measures 4,620 mm in length for the two-door version and 4,920 mm for the four-door variant. The vehicle is also 2,000 mm wide, 1,700 mm high with a 250 mm clearance, and has a wheelbase of 2,910 mm for the two-door and 3,210 mm for the four-door.
The company’s plan is to capture at least 1.3 percent of the world luxury SUV market, so that will include 10 units sold in 2013, followed by 20 units for 2014. From 2015-2017 that number doubles to 40 units per year. The customizable car is priced between $390,000 and $486,000 for the base model.
