Just three months after introducing the Zagato Coupe, BMW AG unveiled its latest result of collaboration with the design and coachbuilding firm Zagato, but this time it is the Roadster, at the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This unique one-off two-seater, BMW Zagato Roudster concept was created in just six weeks to a strict time limit just for the Pebble Beach Auto Show, the most prestigious, highest-profile event in the U.S. for car collectors, designers, manufacturers and other auto enthusiasts.
“We set ourselves the challenge of preparing the car in time for the renowned Pebble Beach Concours”, explained BMW’s senior vice president of design Adrian van Hooydonk. “It was only with the expertise of both companies in the manufacture of high-end one-off cars and another display of outstanding teamwork that we were able to finish the car on schedule.”
Externally, the design is certainly eye-catching with intricate z-design grating, focused twin circular headlights and a three-dimensional front apron. Also, must be mentioned the light-alloy 19in matte wheels with a hint of the propeller and exclusive paint finish blends multiple layers to shift from dark grey to a light silver depending on the angle of light.
The interior, fully BMW’s, as on the Coupe and all company’s modern models is clear but a bit more aggressive. The car is mostly black, except a strip of brown leather which wraps the whole cabin even taking in the roll bars that have been inspired by an aircraft wing. The same shade of brown appears in other areas, including the seats’ contrast stitching, the steering wheel, doors and centre console.
For now, BMW Zagato Roudster is just a model, still no details about the availability, but it won’t be built unless overwhelming demand develops.
