Although 15 years have passed since the death of American pop art leader, Andy Warhol, the interest for his artworks still does not subside. No less popular, Edvard Munch’s iconic works, especially his The Scream, that broke the record in May at Sotheby’s sale when was sold for £73.9 million ($119) – the highest price every paid for an artwork at auction. At the Sotheby’s Sale of Old Master, Modern and Contemporary Prints in London on September 19, 2012, will be auctioned what we can describe as work of these both renowned artists in one piece of art.
Actually, it’s about three unique and rare Andy Warhol’s colour prints, inspired by Edvard Munch, all dating from 1984: The Scream (After Munch), Eva Mudocci (After Munch), and Madonna and Self-Portrait with Skeleton’s Arm (After Munch). The prints come to auction from an Important European Collection with a combined estimate of £500,000 ($793,700) – £750,000 ($1,190,550) .
The Sotheby’s sale, which comprises about 200 pieces from the last five centuries, also includes a Munch woodcut of The Girls on the Bridge, currently on show at Tate Modern, with the estimated price of: £180,000 ($285,700)– £200,000 ($317,500).
