One of rare racing variant of the Fiat’s 508 Balilla from 1933 has been listed on sale for $279,000 by Symbolic Motor Car, La Jolla, CA, who had bought it in 2002 from a prominent Japanese private museum collection. This particular example was built in 1933 specifically for the Mille Miglia, and is also known as the 508S Sprint Siata or “Mille Miglia” Spyder due to their enormous successes in the 1933 and 34 race Seasons.
This 1933 Fiat 508S SIATA Spyder Mille Miglia Convertible features a 995cc 4 cylinder engine. It is equipped with a 4 Speed Manual transmission. There have been some misconceptions regarding to engine number on this car as well as that this car was originally a three speed with standard final drive ratio, but guys from Symbolic Motor Car Service carefully and closely inspected it by removing and cleaning the engine and gearbox. They have revealed finally for the first time in many decades that the correct engine number boss is actually stamped “108S-018552” and the engine casting date is January 22, 1933. The color of this car is original – Burgundy, and its interior features black leather.
Before 2012, this 1933 Fiat 508S SIATA Spyder Mille Miglia Convertible had only three Italian owners from new. The first family had it until 1966 then Sig. Fausto Spreafico bought and restored it. He sold it to Giuseppe Negri who had it from 1968 until 2002 when it went to Sig. Angelo Strada in Milan.
This car is a rare example of the car which has continuos, known history from new and most importantly retains its original coachwork and drive-train, that is accompanied with original FIA and FIVA documents and previous owners records and information.
