Just two days after Andrea Soros Colombel, the daughter of the billionaire businessmen and philanthropist George Soros, listed a 19th-century Greek Revival-style townhouse in the West Village with an asking price of $29,5 million, George Soros’ ex-wife Susan Weber Soros has listed her 10-room apartment in New York City with an asking price of $50 million.
Located at 115 Central Park West at 72nd Street, the 6,000-square-foot apartment in the dual-towered 29-story Art Deco building, known as The Majestic is being offered fully furnished and comes with a separate one-bedroom, one-bath servant’s quarters. Occupying a northeast corner of the building, this five-bedroom, five-bathroom apartment boasts a powder room, views of Central Park from every principal rooms, while the master bedroom with a private terrace facing the park.
Susan Weber Soros, in addition to being the ex-wife of George Soros is the founder of the Bard College Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts, Design, and Culture. In 2006, a year after her divorce, she bought the apartment for $25 million in an under-the-radar transaction from David J. Mimran. Mr. Mimran, an investor acquired the apartment for $12.3 million in 2004 from Ian Schrager, the hotelier and developer. Mr. Schrager had commissioned renowned designer Philippe Starck to do the interiors of the apartment, which he bought in 1997 for $9 million.
Although built in 1930, The Majestic offers all modern amenities for residents including a rooftop solarium, a children’s playroom, private rooftop gardens and a gymnasium, making it one of the most desirable co-ops on the Upper West Side.
