Lamborghini has finally revealed the latest member of its supercar family, new Aventador Roadster LP700-4. “The most exciting Lamborghini ever built”, claimed by Italian company is based on the Aventador coupe that was launched in 2011, and sold in more than 1300 copies to date.
The Aventador Roadster features a Targa-style two-piece roof made entirely from carbon fibre, weighing in at just over 26 pounds (12kg) in total, that can be easily removed by hand in a few seconds and store it in the front luggage compartment when not in use. When mention removable pieces, the Roadster’s powered rear window and a front-mounted wind deflector also can be removed and stowed. The rear cover features hexagon-shaped windows that allow for ventilation and a view of the engine.
Just like the coupe, the Aventador Roadster is powered by the same naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine modulated by a seven-speed single-clutch paddleshift gearbox. It can reach 0-62mph (0-100kmh) in only 3 seconds, a mere 0.1 seconds slower than the coupe, while both car can reach top speed of 217mph (350kmh).
It is also the first Lamborghini supercar to integrate the Stop & Start system. One more Roadster-only addition are new 20-inch front and 21-inch rear aluminium wheels, which are 22 pounds (10kg) lighter than the standard set.
The Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster, priced at €300,000 ($380,500) plus tax is available in a range of colors, including a new Azzuro Thetis colour, inspired by the colour of the 1968 Miura Roadster.
