McLaren has just announced that will start the production of its track-only 12C GT Can-Am Edition, but it’ll be limited to only 30 units. Unveiled this summer at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, McLaren 12C GT Can-Am Edition will be priced at £375,000 ($573,293), when sales begin in March 2013!
McLaren GT to produce 12C GT Can-Am Edition in a limited edition of 30 cars
The 12C GT Can-Am Edition was conceived as a tribute to Bruce McLaren and Denny Hulme, who successfully raced a series of McLaren models in Can-Am during the 1960s. McLaren described it as the most powerful 12C ever built, this stunning track car comes with the twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 engine able to reach 630 horsepower. The manufacturer also said each will be equipped by a unique engine calibration system, complete with optimised cooling system in order to gain more power.
“The 12C Can-Am Edition concept shown at Pebble Beach earlier this year was purely that, a one-off design study,” said Andrew Kirkaldy, Managing Director of McLaren GT. “However, the reaction and response following the unveil was remarkable. It is a real testament to the performance and results of the McLaren GT customer teams this year, still only in the debut competitive season, that there is such a strong demand for this type of track-day special.”
The 12C GT Can-Am Edition gets a large carbon fibre rear wing, which forms part of a high-downforce aerodynamic package honed by McLaren Racing using Formula 1 technology and simulation. McLaren claims it increases downforce by 30 per cent. The door mirror mounts and covers, engine cover vents, side radiator intake vanes, sill covers and badges are other details that differentiate it from the McLaren 12C GT3 racecar.
McLaren 12C GT Can-Am Limited Edition will be also equipped by a forged lightweight racing alloy wheels with black satin-finished and wrapped in Pirelli racing tires.
