It seems that the new Quattroporte and the upcoming, next-generation GranTurismo and GranTurismo convertible, aren’t enough for Maserati’s corporate parents at Fiat, so they have a plans to produce a slightly smaller sedan called the Ghibli, and its also smaller SUV buddy called the Levante, which was previewed by the Kubang concept that debuted last year. The name comes from Emilia Levante, a street in Bologna where the Maserati brothers first dreamed of their car company.
Maserati Levante, a smaller crossover and a competitor of the Audi Q5 and the Porsche Macan, will see the light of the day in 2015, just after the next-generation GranTurismo, that will be availble in 2014, while the Ghibli sedan, the first mass market product from Maserati, based on the Chrysler LX/LY platform, the same one that underpins the Dodge Challenger, will be produced before the end of 2013.
And just when we tought that’s all, the brand has plans to launch a second and yet unnamed SUV, more compact than the Levante, based on neither an existing Maserati nor a Chrysler platform; instead, it will use Fiat’s long-wheelbase Compact U.S. Wide platform. This Maserati, therefore, will be a close relative of the Dodge Dart, the Chinese-market Fiat Viaggio, and the upcoming Alfa Romeo Giulia. So, untill 2015, we can only gess what Maserati has prepared for its SUV lovers.
