The 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, owned by UK-based businessman Eric Heerema, was sold to a collector in the U.S. A classic Ferrari first built for Sir Stirling Moss has sold for a world record £22.7 million.
Now, one more example of the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Series 1 is on the market and threatens to break down this record, since is estimated at a whopping $41 million, which is currently the most expensive car in the world. The car is indeed one of the most desirable classic supercars ever built, and there was never a thought that the cars would someday turn into near venerated objects. Even a decade after, GTOs were often considered worn-out sports cars by collectors. Only in recent years, as the world’s wealthy have begun to see collector cars as pieces of art and profit, the cost of these artifacts soared drastically.
This specific car is very well maintained. The car is being sold by Ed Classics in the United Kingdom and is a left-hand-drive version with a five-speed manual transmision. This Series 1 is extremely rare and is one of the 36 cars of its kind crafted. Beneath the hood, the GTO packs a 3.0 liter V12 engine producing 300hp.
At the moment it seems as though this particular 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO will be sold privately, rather than at an open auction, which means that we will never know the right price, but speculation will remain.
