Do you remember Mary Tyler Moore? One time considered as “one of the most acclaimed television programs ever produced” in US television history, it aired on CBS from 1970 to 1977 and presented Mary Richards – independent career women in her thirties, so different from other single TV women of that time. If you remember Mary, then you must know a pretty amazing Victorian house that she lived in. Now, exactly that house in Minneapolis at 2104 Kenwood Parkway is on sale for $2.895 million and is listed with the Coldwell Banker Burnet.
The Mary Tyler Moore House
Mary supposedly lived in Unit D on the third floor of a large old Queen Anne Victorian house in Minneapolis, Minnesota, behind those signature Palladian windows with the iron balcony. This Minneapolis home was actually used only for the exterior shots, due to picturesque quality surrounding it – nearness the Lake of the Isles on Kenwood Parkway, so inside you won’t find Mary’s apartment, one of the most famous sitcom set ever built in America. The interior today bears little resemblance to the famed house where Mary’s friend, Rhoda, had an apartment on the turreted third floor. That turret is still there in all its Victorian glory, but the 1900’s-era house has been significantly renovated and is now a single-family house with 9,500 square-feet, including seven bedrooms and nine bathrooms.
The house features vintage charm combined with modern applications including a sauna, workout room and stainless steel appliances.
“Second-level bedrooms retain their Victorian aesthetic (highlighted by ornate millwork, bayed rooms and leaded glass transom accents), while the third level includes a second family room and quaint turreted office/studio,” according to the listing.
The owners of the property are Gregory Macfarlane and Eva Wai Oi Mui, who paid $2.8 million for it in 2007.
