Presented at the Detroit car show Lexus, with his new 2014 IS 350 F Sport, has made a big step forward compared to the old model.
Lexus lowered the seat by almost an inch, so you’ll feel like you’re on the floor. The automatic shifter falls easily to hand and feels expensive, and the IS ‘stability control can not be fully defeated.
For the first time, the model adopts ‘G force artificial intelligence control’ in sport mode, where the system automatically selects the optimal gear and downshift pattern in response to G force, and maintains the selected gear through a corner.
Equipped with a revised double wishbone front suspension system, the newly redesigned body implements a 20% increase in sway stiffness. The rear adopts a new multi-link suspension system, resulting in high grip performance and response to steering inputs.
On the slippery course, the open rear differential favored the inside tire, so tail-out antics for the camera required getting the car sideways using big, violent steering inputs. For its tires they choose Bridgestone Turanza all-season for fronts 225/40-YR18 and rears 255/35-YR18.
The car comes with the F-Sport package, as seen above, which includes comfy seats, Lexus’ “Drive Mode Select,” and, on IS 350 models, active suspension and steering. More immediately visible, however, is the ultra-cool LCD gauge panel that, like the LF-A supercar, features a moving ring that tricks your eye into thinking the tachometer itself can slide out of the way to make room for additional information.
With 3.5-liter V6 engine delivering more than 300 hp, the new 2014 Lexus IS 350 F Sport is scheduled to go on sale in mid-2013.
