Kate Spade has lowered the price for her Hamptons Art Village Estate since the price of $5.75 million was obviously too high. 18 months after unsuccessful attempt to get rid of the house, fashion designers Kate and Andy Spade now offer their Southampton retreat, the largest in the upscale locale’s historic Art Village, for $4.75 million.
Created in 1892, Southampton’s famed Art Village Estate once served as the boardinghouse for William Merrit Chase’s Shinnecock Hills Summer School of Art, which became a magnet for affluent patrons as well as the cultural heart of Southampton for years to follow. 120 years later, shingle-style cottages surrounding the original painting studio, charming narrow lanes and towering trees are still there.
Famous couple bought the 6,700sq ft property which sits on 2.93 acres of land around 1996 and it boasts wood-paneled floors and ceilings, leaded glass windows, cedar roofs, grand brick terraces and stunning views over Art Village. This stunning estate features 1920’s-era freestanding ballroom, an enchanting jewel box studio cottage, and staff quarters. There are also room for a pool and tennis court, as well as a two-car garage.
The main house offers eight bedrooms, six baths, three fireplaces, formal dining room, large eat-in kitchen, family room, three ample porches and a grand brick terrace.
Speaking about the home, Kate Spade once told Oprah: “It’s just the most charming thing I’ve ever seen.”
As realtor’s description says the building “was executed in a romantic fashion designed to delight the visitor”, this historic estate should now find its new owner since the price is vastly reduced.
