Extremely rare Bulgari diamond ring set with a rare blue diamond is likely to be the highlight of Bonhams Fine Jewellery sale on 24th April 2013. The fancy deep-blue diamond ring, made in the mid-1960s will sell for an estimated £1-1.5 million ($1.5-2.3 million).

The ‘Trombino’ ring made by Bvlgari is set with a cushion-shaped fancy deep-blue diamond weighing 5.30 carats, which is set horizontally along with brilliant and baguette-cut diamonds. The ring is even more precious since blue diamonds, especially those over 5.00 carats, are extremely rare, which explained Jean Ghika, Director of the Jewellery Department for the UK and Europe:
“Blue diamonds, especially those over 5.00 carats, are extremely rare to see on the market and continue to be highly sought-after. During the 1960s and 1970s Bulgari was well known for its imaginative settings and use of colored diamonds, making them one of the most innovative and fashionable jewelers of the time. This ring epitomizes that ‘golden era’ of elegant simplicity and we are honored to be handling the sale of such a unique gem.”
The last time Bonhams sold a fancy vivid-blue diamond ring by Bulgari was in September 2011. The ring, set with two pear-shaped diamonds, one white and the other fancy vivid-blue generated unprecedented interest, has been sold for £1,9 million ($3 million), more than twice its pre-sale estimate.
