Château El Masr, is located in Cologny, one of eight towns adjacent to the Swiss city of Geneva and surrounded by a fantastic Alpine panorama. At the end of the 18th Century, Jean-Paul Demierre purchased this property. His son, Ami Demierre, built the tower at the entrance to this property, who is now covered with ivy. In the 1880s Charles Floods, a wealthy Scotsman, who seems to have made a terrific fortune in Egypt bought this place. During his ownership so much of the house was recreated as a half Gothic/half ‘Oriental’ chateau. Unsurprisingly, the name he gave his new luxury property, El Masr, which means Egyptian.

Renovated in a British Neo-Elizabethan style the property boasts eight bedrooms, seven bathrooms and a rooftop terrace, while its chandeliers were crafted in Murano, and a marble fountain and various statues in the gardens come from Venice. Though no shrinking violet, one could imagine its more modest size would make it that much more fun to live in than its larger, more theatrical contemporaries.
