Following the launch of the first product in the range, The Spice Road, at the TFWA World Exhibition last year, Diaego has unveiled The Gold Route, the second whisky from the travel retail exclusive collection built around by the world’s great trade routes, Johnnie Walker Explorers’ Club. The third and final variant in the current series, The Royal Route, will be available later this year.
The blend is available exclusively for travellers in duty free stores, and like the other blends which make up the Collection, it pays tribute to the travelling heritage of the John Walker & Sons agents.
Described as an blend that “evoke a sense of the exotic fruit flavours and beautiful rich golden colours reminiscent of Latin America”, The Gold Route keeps the original smoky Johnnie Walker flavour.
“For The Gold Route we took inspiration from the fullness of flavours, sights and experiences of Latin America to help us select the most precious liquids for this blend,” Johnnie Walker Master Blender Jim Beveridge explained. “On the nose, there is an immediate wave of bananas, mango and pitaya, complemented by a hint of vanilla sweetness.” He describes the taste as “a perfect blend of fruitiness with hints of pineapples, guava, passion fruit and raisins, balanced by deep charred peaty notes”.
With a recommended retail price of $95, Johnnie Walker Explorers’ Club Collection – The Gold Route is available to travellers in duty free stores globally now.
