Mercedes-Benz introduces in its offer two armored M-Class models, ML350 BlueTEC and ML500 Guard. Both vehicles meet the VR4 protection standards and are resistant to bullets and grenade explosions.
It is known that in the history, Mercedes vehicles used many statesmen, public figures, and even those who are on the other side of the law. All them have in common that they require special protection while riding in the car. That’s why Mercedes has in its program a armored vehicles marked as Guard. The series of models are mainly from higher segments, like the E, S and G-Class, and the German manufacturer has now expanded to offer two models of the M-class.
These vehicles have a special bodywork, which includes a reinforced armored doors and the front structure of the car. Glass have an extra layer of polycarbonate that protects people in the cab of shrapnel and other explosive debris. To create the roof and roof rails they used a special type of steel. This steel is used for the reinforcement of booths and increasing the strength of the whole structure of the vehicle. Both models have 20-inch AMG alloy wheels with run flat tires, which even when fully deflated allowing the vehicle to move up to 30 miles at a speed of 50mph.
Mercedes ML350 BlueTEC is equipped with a V6 diesel engine with 258 hp and 620 Nm, while the ML500 under the hood have a V8 gasoline engine that produces 408 hp and 600 Nm. The two drive units are connected to the seven-speed automatic 7G-TRONIC PLUS transmission. With a mass of about 2.7 tons, ML350 BlueTEC accelerates from 0-60mph in 9.4 and 6.5 s for the ML500.
