In 2008, after his marriage fell apart, a heartbroken Ian Usher auctioned off his whole life on eBay. For £192,000, he sold his car, his motorbike and his house, with everything in it. Last year, he has found a new one life, complete with a new love and his very own Caribbean island. Now, this extraordinary 50-year-old man is in the headlines again, but now by selling his life in a tropical paradise, off the coast of Panama. On his website ‘Caribbean Life 4 Sale’, you’ll find this great offer.
For less than half the price of an average London terraced house – £160,000 ($250,000), you can buy his Caribbean life which comes complete with the wooden home he built from scratch, motor boats and dug out canoes for exploring the island. The house is solar-powered with rainwater collected on the roof and contains everything a prospective buyer would need in his new life. The Caribbean island home that is offered for sale is in the province of Bocas del Toro, which is situated in the north west corner of Panama.
Mr Usher says he has relished spending time there with his partner and her two children, but is now seeking a new challenge.
“It’s a beautiful place, but the traveller’s itchy feet are starting to tickle again. I still have a long list of places I want to see, and I can’t do that if I’m lounging in a hammock on the balcony sipping a margarita.”
With his incredible story of hope and renewal, it is no surprise that Usher – who kept a blog about his travels and published a book – has been approached by Disney about a movie deal.
