After nearly two years on the market, $50 million apartment in Meier-on-Rothschild Tower still awaits for buyer. Israel’s most expensive apartment is in a 42-story ultra-luxury residential tower designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Richard Meier. The “Palace in the Sky”, a 1,418-square meter penthouse on the 38th and 39th floors is the most expensive apartment ever for sale in Tel Aviv.
This is a very important building for me,” Meier said on the tower’s opening in 2008. “There is no better location in the country, and the fact that it’s the highest building in Tel Aviv means there is no better light available. For an architect, it’s all about light, space and material. The penthouse was designed to be the top apartment in the country.”
Construction of the 180-meter began in 2006, and is due to be completed in 2014. The developers say that 65% of the building’s 141 apartments have already been sold. Two other penthouses are also still up for sale: “The Royal Penthouse” – 7,833-square-foot (728 sqm) estate on the 40th floor and “The Rothschild Summit” – a 6,520-square-foot (607 sqm) townhouse on the 41st and 42nd floors.
Prices for the apartments in this world-class caliber building range for NIS 5 million ($1,4 million) for a two-floor apartment on the first floor to NIS 90 million ($25 million) for apartments on higher floors. The great-grandson of the Baron Rothschild bought an apartment for NIS 60 million ($16,65 million).
