The media mogul, Newscorp Chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch has tweeted about celebrating his purchase of beautiful small vineyard right in LA.
“Great wine, Moraga, owned by great Angelino, Tom Jones. Time cover, 1961!”, he announced on Friday. Moraga Vineyards Estate located in the Santa Monica Mountains, some 600–900 feet in elevation was listed for $29.5 million, according to Curbet.
The 13-acre estate includes its own vineyard and was previously owned by Thomas Jones, not the famous singer but the ex-CEO of Northrop Corporation, who indeed was featured on the cover of a 1961 issue of Time dedicated to the aerospace industry.
The Moraga Estate Winery was the first commercial winery to be bonded in the city of Los Angeles since Prohibition ended in 1933 and has been thriving ever since. It sits about 900 feet above sea level in its own little mini-ecosystem and gets heavier-than-average rain compared to the greater LA basin. Victor Fleming, director of The Wizard of Oz, also owned this sprawling property.
