At charity gala the actor appeared as a mystery guest which whom the winner of the auction will be flying into space. The trip to space with Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio was paid $1.5 million in a charity gala organized during the Cannes Film Festival.
At 20th charity dinner, organized by the Foundation for AIDS Research, amfAR, DiCaprio appeared as a mystery guest who will monitor the auction winner on the way to space. Actress Sharon Stone said that the winner of the auction spend three days with DiCaprio on training in New Mexico before the Virgin Galactic spacecraft flew to space. “You can’t get the opportunity every day to go into space with a handsome actor,” said Stone, dressed in a tight white dress with gold trim.
The competition began with the $1 million. The auction brochure for the event which was organized at the luxurious Hotel du Cap Eden Rock, said that DiCaprio and the winner will be among the first 1,000 people to travel into space. Winner Vasily Klyukin, 37, a Russian real estate agent living in Monaco, said that he always wanted to go into space. “Wanted to be bold,” he told to Reuters.
The total auction raised a $32.5 million, compared to last when it collected $14.5 million.
AmfAR Gala Dinner is the largest fundraising event in Cannes. Housewife at first night 20 years ago was a Hollywood diva Elizabeth Taylor. This year’s auction was attended by cast members of the Cannes jury Nicole Kidman and Christopher Volc, singer Kylie Minogue and Janet Jackson, and actors Adrian Brody and Goldie Hawn. Among other items in the auction were tickets to Hollywood events, Damien Hirst painting, family portrait of Annie Leibovitz, the opportunity to play in four films and a private performance by Simon Le Bon and John Taylor from “Duran Duran.”
