The X5 first appeared in 1999 as SAV – Sports Activity Vehicle and has so far sold in about 1.3 million copies (in two generations). Now we have the official photos of the third-generation BMW X5 for 2014.
All versions will have an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the production of the new X5 will take place in the Spartanburg plant in the USA. 2014 BMW X5 (F15 factory marks) will be officially out this summer and production begins in August.
The new X5 is slightly longer (there are 4886 mm for 29 mm more) and slightly lighter than the current model (E70 labels). Thus, the X5 xDrive35i is lighter by 77 kg and 104kg for the X5 xDrive50i. Also, the new X5 will be offered in versions with a rear-wheel drive (sDrive), and a version with seven seats (ie, with an optional third row of seats).
Also, the new X5 will among other things have a navigation / infotainment LCD screen and touch the new iDrive system, automatic opening tailgate, LED fog lights, Xenon headlights are standard, optional adaptive LED headlamps, Active Driving Assistant, Lane Departure Warning, Dynamic Performance Control, Dynamic Handling Package, Dynamic Damper Control, Head-Up Display, Night Vision, reversing camera etc etc..For sound, you get to pick between Harman Kardon or Bang & Olufsen.
The engine which will be offered are, a 3.0-liter, single-turbocharged inline-six with 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque, as well as more robust 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 with 445 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. A 3.0-liter diesel six will be introduced in 2014. It will offer 255 horsepower, 413 lb-ft of torque. BMW claims the V-8 will go from 0-60 in an impressive 6.2 seconds.
Official sales of the new BMW X5 is to begin this fall, and about a year after it should appear the new X5 M with S63Tu engine that could have up to 580Hp.
The prices, depending on the model, are in range from $67,500 to $110,000.
