Unique item – a lock of hair belonging to Rolling Stones star Mick Jagger will be auctioned at the forthcoming Entertainment Memorabilia sale at Bonhams, Knightsbridge on 3rd July. With an estimated price of £1,500-£2,000 ($2,350-$3,130), the lock of hair is being sold by Chrissie Shrimpton, the younger sister of Jean Shrimpton – Jagger’s model ex-girlfriend. This weird memorabilia was collected and freshly washed by Shrimpton’s grandmother and is to date back to the early-to-mid 1960s.
It comes in a small paper envelope with the words “Mick Jagger’s hair after being washed + trimmed by Chris at Rose Hill Farm” inscribed on the front.
A statement on the Bonhams website reads: “The statement, from Chrissie Shrimpton, confirms that, unbeknown to her at the time, this lock was saved by her grandmother when Mick and Chrissie were staying at her parents’ farm. Apparently, on her grandmother’s death, the hair passed to Chrissie’s aunt and when she died, the hair was returned to Chrissie by a cousin taking care of personal effects.”
The proceeds will go to Changing Faces, a charity that helps people who have been disfigured.
Some more ordinary items which will be offered on sale include a set of David Bowie’s handwritten lyrics to his track, The Jean Genie valued at £12,000-£15,000 ($18,800-$23,500), which is actually the highlight of upcoming Bonhams auction, as well as Led Zeppelin guitarist, Jimmy Page’s personally owned and played Martin ‘Birthday Special 2007’ acoustic guitar, estimated at £10,000-£15,000 ($15,700-$23,500).
