‘Million Dollar Suit’ but isn’t world’s most expensive. British-Pakistani Master Tailor Arshad Mahmood, the director of Apsley Tailors and his team have made suit which was sold on May 29 for HK$1 million (US$129,000), making it the world’s second most expensive suit created. The first spot was taken by Stuart Hughes and Richards Jewels with their suit that costs around $943,000.
This suit, which includes 22-carat gold stitching, a gold waistcoat and diamond encrusted gold buttons took Apsley Tailors 200 hours to make the suit from the finest wool, with gold woven into the fabric.
“It’s not for everyday use. I am not sure if the owner of the suit will actually tell others that he is standing there wearing the most expensive attire in the world or not. It’s entirely up to him,” Mahmood said.
Apsley Tailors (locally known as Punjab House in Hong Kong) was established in 1889 and became a popular tailoring shop among the British troops who were stationed in Hong Kong. Today, Aspley Tailors cater to clients around the world, including affluent individuals and personalities from the English Premier Football League and famous rugby teams.
