Bonhams will offer, at Quail Lodge Auction, on August 16 in sunny Carmel Valley, California, during the world-renowned Monterey Peninsula Car Week, such cars like Cobra, Lister and Lotus from the Stan Hallinan Collection. Amazing 1958 Lister-Chevrolet “Knobbly” Sports Racer was used for local Gymkhana events and the occasional spirited country drive for just a few of its early years. The car was retired to protective dry storage in 1964 where it remained until June of this year.
A 1962 Shelby AC Cobra representing the apex of Anglo-American sports cars with its aluminum roadster body and tube space frame powered by a brawny yet lightweight V-8 engine. This particular Cobra has just two owners from new and may quite possibly be the most original and lowest mileage (4,711) example extant.
A 1965 Lotus Cortina Mk1, the high-performance collaborative creation from Lotus and Ford of Britain, will also be offered. Raced to victory by such legends as Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart and Jackie Ickx, the Lotus Cortina holds many prestigious titles and is still a strong finisher in historic competitions today. This example from the Hallinan Collection is, as would be expected, an exceptional single-owner car that is just over 6,200 miles from new and retains its original paint and interior.
