Collection of Professor Sir Albert Richardson (1880-1964) will be offered at Christie’s London on the 18 and 19 September 2013. Enviable collection comprising 650 lots that belonged to respected collector, architect and former president of the Royal Academy has an estimated total value of more than £4,000,000 ($6,000,000). Ancient oil paintings, watercolours, architectural drawings, European furniture, sculptures, objets d’art, books, clocks, musical instruments and Georgian costumes remained unseen and untouched for almost half a century.
The most prominent lots include Portrait of Countess Lucietta Memmo Mocenigo by Angelica Kauffmann, R.A (1741-1807), estimated £150,000 – £250.000 ($220,000 – $380,000), a roman sculpture in marble, Silenus riding on the back of a goat, realised between the 1st and 2nd century AD, estimated £80,000 – £120,000 ($120,000 – $180,000).
In the furniture and objets d’art category is A pair of George III ormolu and white marble perfume-burners, (circa 1771), by the English 18th century craftsman Matthew Boulton, estimated £60,000 – £100,000 ($60,000 – $150,000). A piano in satinwood and mahogany (circa 1786) produced by John Joseph Merlin, estimated £30,000 – £50,000 ($45,000 – $75,000).
