Bonhams 16 annual Carmel automotive auction, during the Monterey Peninsula Car Week, situated on the spacious western lawns of Quail Lodge in sunny Carmel Valley, achieved revenues of $33 million. Buyers from around the world came to view some of the rarest and most important cars ever offered, and the most attention has attracted a 1931 Bentley 4.5-Liter Supercharged Le Mans racer from the Charles R.J. Noble Collection which was sold for $4,647,500.
A 1953 Ferrari 250 Europa Coupé by Vignale which was sold for $2,805,000 was another highly desirable lot. Other cars that attracted attention of the buyers were 1962 Shelby AC Cobra from the Stan Hallinan Collection sold for $2,068,000, the 1953 Sebring 12 Hours, 1952 Frazer-Nash Le Mans MkII, Austin-Healey 3000, Lamborghini Countach, Lancia B24S Spider America, Lotus 22, and a Mercedes-Benz Bus.
