Christie’s upcoming Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening Sale, scheduled for November 12th, could be the place where Jeff Koons’ will surpass his own record. His sculpture – Balloon Dog (Orange), estimated at $35 – $55 million could beat his $33.6 Million “Tulips” Sculputure at Wynn Las Vegas.
This orange Balloon Dog sculpture is one of five metallic dog pieces crafted by Koons (other four are yellow, blue, magenta and red). This “monumental work” (or oversized children’s toy) will be sold on behalf of the Brant Foundation Art Study Center in Greenwich, Connecticut.
Jeff Koons declared, “I think the balloon dog is really a symbol like the Trojan horse—something kind of mythic, and an aspect of a history.”
His orange balloon dog – “the Holy Grail for collectors and foundations” has been celebrated around the world, having graced the rooftop of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, Venice’s Grand Canal and Versailles Palace outside Paris. Well, what I actually know about contemporary art?
