Kinpurnie, one of the finest agricultural, residential and sporting estates in Scotland is for sale for the first time in a century. The Angus estate, which once belonged to the late Sir James Cayzer has been listed at the price of £29 million ($46,5 million), thus making it the most expensive property in Scotland. Private 5,400 acre estate offers property, farmland, woodland, six privately owned lochs and an exceptional driven pheasant shoot – comprising some drives considered to be among the most challenging in Scotland.
The two major properties on the estate are the Kinpurnie Castle and the Thriepley House. The castle is the older of the two and was built in 1907 in a Scots baronial style. The other one is a more attractive residence as it is a mansion with beautiful gardens in a mix of Italian and Moorish style. Outside there is an orangery which overlooks the breathtaking Italianate gardens while the house itself has a wonderful pastoral outlook over its own private loch to land owned by the estate.
Justin Marking, head of residential property at Savills, which is joint estate agent for Kinpurnie points out that it extremely rare to get an estate of this stature on the market. Sir James Cayzer is the great-grandson of Sir Charles William Cayzer, who went to sea when he was a teenager and ended up founding the shipping company that made his family fortune.
