Artworks celebrating Kate Moss raised over £1,6 million ($2,5 million) at legendary Christie’s auction in London. A collection of photographs and artwork of the British supermodel were gathered by Gert Elfering – who is a German photographer, gallery-owner and long term collector of photographic art. The explosive and challenging collection consists mainly of photographic images, since that is the field in which she has made her career. It features 58 pieces, including a glittering sculpture with exaggerated breasts and a photograph of her younger self aggressively punching the camera.
It Glittering glass-reinforced composite 2013 sculpture, ‘A model Model’, was the highlight of the event. Created by Allen Jones, this 185 cm tall figurine sold for £133,875 ($215,000). It is signed, dated and numbered ‘no. 1′ in ink on the inside. Only six such sculptures will be made. Jones’s oil painting, ‘Kate in red,’ was the second-highest grossing item and went for £121,875 ($196,000). The sale attracted a crowd of about 100. It was the first auction of a new season of contemporary art market events in the U.K. capital that culminates next month with the Frieze fair.
