Maybe not $100,000 iPhone 5 Case with Sapphire and Rubies, but is Japanese best alternative for it. Japanese jeweler Akiyama and mobile phone company Phonet, both based in Yamanashi prefecture has teamed up to create Koku – Japanese most extravagant diamond studded iPhone cases with eye-popping price tags.
These cases, priced at 3,776,000 yen for the gold (around $38,400) and 377,600 yen ($3,840) for the silver, are not going to be mass-produced. They are very difficult to make and time-consuming so only 15 pieces of each version will be available. Currently, they’re only available in Japan, but the company hopes to start selling them it world-wide.
“Since iPhone is marketed globally, we’d like to promote these outside Japan as well in future,” Yutaro Akiyama, of Akiyama Co., told the Journal.
Koku means “time”, and the back of the case features a design of a clock face set against the outline of a solitaire-diamond ring Above the XII symbol is a silhouette of Mount Fuji, Japan’s tallest peak, whose height – 3,776 meters – inspired the product’s aspirational price tag. The gold version of the case contains 207 pieces of 1.71 carat diamonds, while cheaper, silver model is made with silver and cubic zirconias.
