Richard Branson’s Mahali Mzuri safari camp in Kenya is the latest addition to the Virgin Limited Edition portfolio, and is British entrepreneur’s third property in Africa. Although the tented safari lodge has been operation since 2003, Branson officially launched the camp in a traditional Maasai ceremony. He invited Maasai elders to bless the establishment, since he is a recognized tribal Maasai Elder from 2007. Branson said: “I’m pleased to add my voice to supporters of the tourism industry in Kenya and we see this opening as a symbol of our confidence in its long-term future.”
Mahali Mzuri is situated in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy in the Maasai Mara, about 240 kilometres west of Nairobi. Mahali Mzuri consists of 12 sleeper tents and can cater for a maximum of 24 guests at any one time. Designed to offer high-end luxury holidays, serenity and unique retreats, each tent of the camp is named after one of the 12 Masai tribes located in the conservancy. This minimal-environmental-impact resort features a 40-foot infinity pool, a spa, twice-daily wildlife-viewing drives into the bush, and safari walks.
Rates start from $590 per person, per night, based on double occupancy, inclusive of all meals and drinks (including alcoholic beverages), daily game drives, unlimited access to the exclusive Olare Orok and Motorogi Conservancies, transfers from the Mara North airstrip, guided bush walks, visits to the local markets, complimentary laundry service (dry cleaning not available) and all taxes.
