At the begining of this year, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt start winemaking business. In March 6,000 bottles of the couple’s Miraval Rose 2012 have been sold within five hours of going on Internet sale. That their success was undeniable, is now proved with the last news that a single cask of organic white wine from their private estate in France, Chateau Miraval was sold for €10,100 ($13,640) at auction on Wednesday.
The signed 228-litre (60-gallon) barrel was purchased by Vins Breban, a Provence negociant business.
There were 27 lots on sale at the auction by the winegrowers of the Correns commune in southern France, which was run to raise money for the charity – a sustainable village project eastern Democratic Republic of Congo’s Kivu region. However, other lots went for rather more modest prices, including a magnum of white wine which sold for €170 ($230).
The Hollywood superstars teamed up with Marc Perrin, veteran Gallic wine family to create glass of their own rosé, made from grapes grown at their vast £35 million ($55 million) Riviera property which spreads across the 500-hectare (1,200-acre) and includes 50 to 60 acres of vines.
