November 22 marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Just ahead of the anniversary, sketch of sailboat, done by president John F. Kennedy the day before he was assassinated, will be offered by New Hampshire’s RR Auction house in its second online auction of JFK collectibles. A small pencil sketch of a sailboat zipping along atop the waves, drawn on letterhead from the Rice Hotel, will fetch an estimated $30,000 to $40,000 at online auction. at the Rice Hotel JFK was at the Rice Hotel for a few hours, preparing a speech he would give at an event later that evening. After that speech, he traveled to Fort Worth and was killed the next day. The sketch was found the day after he left, and was returned to Kennedy’s secretary, Evelyn Lincoln.
“It just speaks to his time, his love of sailing, and the tragedy that happened the next day, leaves you thinking what his last thoughts might have been,” said Bob Livingston with RR Auction.
Some of 228 JFK items to be offered on sale Thursday in an online auction: a Bulova watch engraved with “JFK 1941,” estimated at $15,000 to $20,000; his earliest known signed photograph, inscribed with the message “Remember Me? Jack K,” estimated at $8,000 to $10,000; and the keys of the presidential limo used the day of the attack.
