For upcoming holiday season, Yves Saint Laurent has reincarnated its iconic Opium, a controversial fragrance at the time of launch (1977) and now dressed it in gold. Designed by the gilding artist Manuela Paul-Cavallier, the bottle of Opium L’Objet Rare is covered by gold leaf with the bottle’s iconic Opium black cord in the centre.
“Opium represents the embodiment of a dream of irresistible beauty; femininity in all of its enchanting and elegant beauty … I created this world like a journey where charm and sensuality are combined with gold, transparency, and fluidity, just as in the perfume,” Manuela Paul-Cavallier explained.
Unchanged, a warm oriental fragrance always blends notes of mandarin and bergamot extracts of jasmine and carnation spicy. In the background, there is vanilla, vetiver and amber accents.
Limited to only 50 pieces, this fragrance, created specially for Christmas, will go on sale December 2, priced at €2,000 ($2,700).
