After designing for Rihanna, Kylie Minogue, Princesses Beatrice, Mick Jagger, and Lady Gaga, renowned milliner, Stephen Jones has opted for plastic fashion icon to to adorn it with his eye-catching pieces. This Christmas, Barbie got a new style, dressed up in tiny antlers, a fur ice skating costume, and a Santa hat cocktail dress. Jones created five complete looks for Barbie: Holly Surprise Barbie, Toffee Ice Barbie, Santa Baby Barbie, Snowglobe Barbie and Christmas Tree Barbie whose headpiece is a light up tree powered with a battery pack craftily hidden in the parcel at her feet.
“Barbie lights up my life! You can’t have a Christmas collection without having a Christmas tree. I also thought if you can’t be the fairy on top of the tree, why not just create a Christmas tree on your head. Barbie is the most fabulous private client,” Jones told The Daily Mail of his Christmas collection. “She came into the salon for her Christmas morning hat and left with five glamorous outfits. Barbie and I have the same design vision; we love tradition, but have an eye for the future.”
Priced at £250 ($400) each, Barbie in a crazy holiday creations will be available from Friday 15 November, within the Barbie department at Selfridges new London’s Toy Shop. No word on whether they’ll be sold in America.
