Seven decades after first publication of the tale “The Little Prince”, by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, IWC with conjuction with Sotheby’s auctioned off one-of-a-kind Big Pilot’s Perpetual Calendar Edition “Le Petit Prince” in platinum for charity. The special version of iconic watch was sold for CHF 173,000 ($189,500) at Sotheby’s ‘Important Watches’ auction in Geneva. The proceeds of the sale will be used to support the construction of a school with a library in Cambodia,which is currently underway and is scheduled to be opened in spring 2014.
“This auction is a sign of our respect for the Foundation’s commitment to fighting illiteracy. As a globally successful company, we take our social responsibility seriously and have since 2006 maintained a collaborative relationship with Saint-Exupery’s heirs and the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Youth Foundation, which is based on the humanistic values of the renowned pilot and author,” commented Georges Kern, CEO of IWC Schaffhausen.
The brand commemorates the 70th birthday of the highly popular novella with the Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Edition “Le Petit Prince” in 18-carat red gold, limited to 270 watches, and the Pilot’s Watch Mark XVII Edition “Le Petit Prince” in stainless stee, limited to 1,000 watches.
