This year marks the 50th anniversary since the release of Beatles‘ first album – “Please Please Me”. During this jubilee year, there were a lot of collectibles associated with the Fab Four tends, such as a limited edition Beatles Collection offered by Bloomingdale’s or The Beatles / The BBC Archives: 1962-1970 hardcover book. Now, all Beatles funs and collectors can bid for a signed first pressing of their groundbreaking first UK album.
Heritage Auctions will offer a nice example of Beatles Signed Please Please Me Mono UK First Pressing LP (Parlophone PMC 1202, 1963) at its Entertainment & Music Memorabilia Signature Auction in Dallas, scheduled for December 6th. The current bid at the moment of writing this post is $15,000, but knowing that everything associated with the quartet from Liverpool become collectible before too long, the price will go much more, estimated at $30,000 and up. Also, though short-lived compared to, say, the Rolling Stones and other acts from the 1960s, the Beatles were extremely prolific, which means it’s records are justifiable collectible.
And to emphasize once again, a cover of 1963 album is signed by all four members of the band. Paul, George, and John have signed in the white area at the top and Ringo has signed just below in the Tony Barrow-written liner notes, but with excellent contrast. It was standard procedure in Britain at this time for albums to be signed on the back because the fronts were coated with a slick paper that ink didn’t adhere to well.
