Angelina Jolie followed her heart when splashed £12.2 million ($20 million) for birthday gift for Brad Pitt. According to rumors, the actress decided to please her husband for his 50th birthday by giving him an island in the shape of a heart! Secluded Petra Island is about 50 miles off the coast of New York City and one of its main features is a sprawling estate designed by Frank Lloyd, Pitt’s favourite architect.
“As soon as Angelina heard the island was on the market she arranged a viewing. She was really impressed. The house is perfect for romantic getaways or as a family retreat,” a source told The Mirror. Some other sources, however argue that the whole story is pure fiction citing the daughter of the owners of Petra Island who doesn’t have any idea where the report about Jolie’s purchasing came from.
Petra’s original cottage was erected in 1950, while its larger property was built from one of Wright’s blueprints in 2008 – 48-years after his death. It now features 11 acres, a 5,000-square-foot main residence and a 1,200-square-foot cottage and boasts panoramic views of the surrounding area, ceilings panelled with the finest mahogany and skylights that afford the property plenty of natural lighting.
