Here is a perfect holiday gift for passionate Bruce Springsteen‘s fan. A handwritten draft of Springsteen’s “Born to Run” 1975 hit goes under the hammer. Working version of the lyrics will be offered by Sotheby’s on Dec. 5 as part of its sale of fine books and manuscripts. This unique piece of history expected to fetch $70,000 to $100,000.
According to the notes from the auction house, the manuscript were hand-written by a 26-year-old Springsteen in West Long Branch, New Jersey in early 1974. The lyrics are written in blue ink on a standard 8½-by-11 sheet of notebook paper and include words and themes that were unpublished and unrecorded, as well as some that ended up in the song.
The seller of this unique piece of music history wasn’t revealed, but what is known is that it comes from the collection of Mike Appel, Springsteen’s former manager and a co-producer of the “Born to Run” album.
