A one-of-a-kind Leica M camera designed by Jony Ive and Marc Newson sold for $1.8 million during Sotheby’s auction to benefit Bono’s (RED) Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa. The sale exceeded all expectation totaling more than $13 million. A unique Leica Digital Rangefinder Camera is also one of the world’s rarest cameras, with only one copy in existence.
It features a magnesium die-cast body, a commemorative inscription recognizing Ive and Newson, as well as anodized aluminum components unsurprisingly in the vein of many Apple products. In addition to this camera, specifically produced for the RED auction was a unique white and red Steinway & Sons grand piano, which fetched $1.9 million.
