Crystal Cruises‘ award-winning Crystal Serenity has emerged from a $17 million makeover. In a sea of changes that makes the already sterling ship more attractive we’ll mention couple such as the addition of a chef’s herb garden, a new casual restaurant and 70 hypoallergenic cabins. “We have completely reimagined spaces to create chic and contemporary public areas and accommodations that are as comfortable and inviting as they are dramatic and stylish,” says Crystal’s President Edie Bornstein. “Fine design is an integral part of our guests’ lifestyles, whether at home or away.”
The 1,070-passenger Crystal Serenity has been transformed at the Navantia Shipyard in Cadiz, Spain. The 11-year-old ship now boasts Lido Café with modern food islands (instead of long buffet counters), more tables for two, and a live, open kitchen, which includes a bakery. Mid-ship dining spaces on Lido are all new, including a Tastes restaurant with another open kitchen, Scoops ice cream bar, Tastes Bar and Trident Grill. On the Lido deck, the herb garden, located in new vertical “living walls” of plants, is designed to grow seasonings for use in onboard kitchens. Elsewhere on the deck are real olive trees.
70 deluxe veranda staterooms were transformed into hypoallergenic luxury accommodations offering a chemical- and odor-free indoor environment solution.
Inspired by the classic flats of London and the sophisticated upscale style of Manhattan, the 1,345-square-foot Crystal Penthouses were gutted and reconfigured, with a chic new decor and the addition of a den/library with a sofa bed to serve as a second bedroom.
In addition to remodeling, the ship also received both environmental and mechanical upgrades, officials said.
