From now you can enjoy watching films while lying on a comfortable cashmere bed and not only in your home, but in the cinema. London’s Electric Cinema has removed a row of 14 chairs and replaced them with six double beds to give people a special experience of seeing films. So, now couples will be able to slip under cashmere throws with a glass of wine while they watch the latest releases or old classics. “There used to be smooching in the back row, now there will be smooching in the front row under a blanket,” said Nick Jones, founder of the Soho House group, which owns the Grade II* listed cinema.
The Electric Cinema in Notting Hill, which re-opened ten years ago, already features leather seats, footstools, tables for food and drink and two-seater sofas.
The tickets for beds are cheaper than for seats because they are on the front row. They are to be sold in pairs for £18 per person, compared to £20 per person for regular tickets.
The 102-year-old cinema on Portobello Road has just undergone a £5m refurbishment with the aim to maintain the Electric’s reputation as the most luxurious and comfortable place to watch a film in London.
