Artfully emphasizing its British heritage and ingenuity in watchmaking, Arnold & Son unveils a totally new reference of its iconic Time Pyramid – in steel. The new timepiece is treated in NAC grey, housed in a stainless steel case and powered by the hand finished A&S1615 calibre which seemingly floats between two sapphire crystals. The 2014 Time Pyramid in steel offers a new look for the watch in contrast to the original 18k red gold version.
The 44.6mm watch features regulator, skeletonisation, a vertical linear movement, pyramid-placement of components and multi-dimensional depth. The highly skeletonized movement was inspired by a skeletonized British clock from around 1830. The triangular shape of the movement which is just 4.4mm thick, was the source of the “pyramid” part of the name. It operated at 21,600 bph and has a long power reserve of 90 hours.
Aesthetically, symmetry is key with the new Time Pyramid. You’ll find the winding crown tucked in at 6 o’clock, keeping the steel case completely balanced horizontally. Even though the face is skeletonized and the dial for the time is smaller, legibility is still good thanks to the blued steel hands and full set of hour and minute markers. Compared to the gold Time Pyramid with its skeletonized arrow hands, the steel version has hands tipped with SuperLumiNova. Under the main dial for the time toward to the top is a smaller subsidiary seconds dial.
Also compared with the original Time Pyramid priced about $40,000, this more sophisticated version in steel is more affordable – $29,850.
