Gérard Depardieu‘s latest business venture is private airlane so he can make money by leasing it. French actor won’t probably urinate in his jet, as he did in 2011 on the flight from Paris to Dublin in plane cabin after flight crew asked him to wait for take-off. The new airline is dubbed Cyran R (pronounced “See-ran air”), romantically named after his first major screen character, Cyrano de Bergerac.
The Asterix & Obelix star registered Cyran’R last November as a private limited liability company at the same address as the upmarket, Depardieu-owned bed and breakfast, Villa White Cloud in Belgium’s Estaimpuis municipality. His jet is currently being kept at the Lesquin airport, outside of the French city of Lille, just across the Belgian border from Estaimpuis. According to newspaper reports the aircraft will serve to carry passengers as well as commercial cargo.
Depardieu has stepped away from acting in recent years, focusing on his ever-expanding business empire. He already owns “La Cave à Gérard” – a shop stocking wines made by celebrity vintners. Aside from Mr. Depardieu’s own vintages, wine fans can scoop up a cépage by French rocker Johnny Hallyday or a bouquet by Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. He also owns already mentioned a bed and breakfast hotel in in the village of Néchin, and he plans to open a gourmet restaurant in the neighboring city of Tournai before the end of 2014.
