In December 2012, the GlenDronach distillery delighted its worldwide admirers by producing its first cask strength single malt. All 12,000 bottles sold out in a matter of weeks and Batch 2 quickly followed due to popular demand. The Glendronach Cask Strength expression, now reaching it’s 3rd batch. . It’s a special whisky matured in trademark combination of Pedro Ximenez (PX) and Oloroso sherry casks.
On the nose you’ll get rich aromas of punch of youthful sweet sherry, sultanas soaked in rum (yes, rum), light & sweet , some vinegar notes, given some time in glass, major cocoa and dark chocolate notes, some dusty papers whiffs and all being wrapped with sweet, albeit clogging, sherry. On the palate, the whisky balances the traditional sherry character with lots of oak and spices – cinnamon, sweet burnt demerara sugar, nutmeg, pepper. Comparing to batch 2, batch 3 is smoother and has less burn in the undiluted finish.
Sales Director Alistair Walker said: “We believe this is another GlenDronach gem where spices mingle with the richness of the fruit to give a hugely satisfying malt to be savoured slowly during special, quiet moments.
“We’ll continue to release our cask strength batches as long as this wonderful expression remains popular with consumers.”
Bottled at 54.9%, the GlenDronach Cask Strength Batch 3 is available for £52.45 (about $87).
