Glenfiddich is the number 1 selling single malt Scotch whisky in the world (#2 in the United States), and their most luxurious marque is the extremely rare Glenfiddich 50-year-old. One bottle of this exceptional whisky was sold for £13,750 ($22,850) at Bonhams’ Edinburgh sale last month. The whisky was bottled on 26th July 1991, carried the number 416 and came in its own wooden presentation case.
Bonhams whisky specialist, Martin Green, commented:” Interest in whisky auctions remains high not just in the UK but across the world. This year we’ve seen a particular increase in bidders and buyers from Europe and the Far East.”
In addition to this 50-year-old bottle of Glendiffich, other notable lots were sold at auction including a bottle of the Macallan Select Reserve-51 year old-1948, sold for £7,500 ($12,500) and the Macallan-1938 reached £4,375 ($7,270).
