The legendary Ferrari 250 GTO is the world’s most sought-after car, especially as there were only 36 models built between 1962 and 1964. Recently, a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO racer has been sold for a cool £32million ($52 million), making it the most expensive car on the planet. So if you didn’t collect the ultimate car, you can acquire an appropriate replica. So, what do you think about 1:3.6 scale model of it hewn from a marble? A company called Lapicida, which specialises in carving bespoke objects from natural stone created this work of art from a single piece of Arabescato marble.
To create this legendary car, Lapicida simply laser-scanned an actual GTO and fine-tuned the resulting data in 3D modeling software. Then, the company hired a five-axis diamond-tipped drill, housed inside one of the planet’s largest shaping mills (the only one of its kind in the UK and just one of three in the world), to shape the marble. The drills themselves spin up to 7,000rpm, and spent 100 hours carving out this Ferrari. Finally, it was hand-finished to perfection.
And the result – 47.2-inches long, 18.1-inches wide and 13.4-inches tall model which retails for a mere £30,000 ($49,173).
